Nani, our new pet

May 31, 2013

It was a Friday and, me and my sister had to wake up early to do laundry. We went out of our rooms and did our respective morning chores. I cooked breakfast for the two of us and my sister, Yumie, swept the floors and loaded our clothes into the washing machine. After she had swept the floors, I had already prepared the table for breakfast (if I remember it correctly, I cooked Spam that day). My sister turned the television on and turned to sports channel. Miami Heat VS. Indiana Pacers was on and we were on perfect timing. We got into the game for a few minutes that we forgot about our clothes on the washer, so I told my sister to check it out as I took our plates to the sink and was about to wash them when she suddenly told me that she heard something. I turned the running water off and walked up to her and saw her looking at a kitten that was just in front of our house. "It's so cute!" She cooed. "Let's get her." She suggested, so I called up my cousin, Luigi, and told him about the kitten outside.

The three of us ran outside the house but stopped at the gate to look at the kitten. It was small, weak, and couldn't even walk properly. The kitten walked from the bush to the center of the narrow road. It was so cute just looking at it try to walk. My sister was about to get it when an SUV passed. We thought the kitten was dead but after the SUV fully passed, we found it clinging for its dear life. She fell on the small hole that was on the local drainage. When my sister saw this, she quickly went and took the kitten before it fell or before any other vehicle might run over it. We took it inside and my dog peed when he saw it (got scared probably).

We went inside the house and cooed over the adorable kitten in front of us. We inspected the kitten and our findings were: female; ball of absolute cuteness; has a some sort of pom pom tail. Her tail was 1.5-2 inches long but at the end of it was a bit circular. I inspected it more carefully and it felt weird until I stretched it and I was amazed. "It's a question mark!" I exclaimed. It was a straight tail but formed a question mark/hook-like ending. It looked so cute. She was so amazing that we decided to keep her.

We were keeping her. End of discussion...but we still had to name her. My cousin suggested that we name her tiger but my sister wanted to name her something significant that everybody will remember. The first thing I suggested was pom pom because she had a pom pom-like tail. "No." She replied. I then suggested Mark for question 'MARK'. "No." Again. Name suggestion rejected two times but this did give her an idea. "Why don't we name her Nani?" She asked. "What's nani?" My cousin asked. "Nani is the Japanese translation for what." I answered. My cousin shrugged and I looked at my sister. "Nani sounds great!" I smiled to her and we welcomed Nani to our home.
